Avocado Mousse

Avocado in a dessert? Yes you read that right. Don't let the name of this recipe fool you though. This rich and decadent mousse is so simple to make, yet so delicious. I promise that after you try it, you'll forget all about the avocado.

If you've been following health trends in recent years, you'll know that avocados have been getting a lot of buzz lately. While I'm not one to to jump on the "new food trend band wagon" just because something receives a lot of attention in the media, I have to admit that avocados have become popular for a reason.


This green, mushy fruit is unique in the sense that most fruits are mainly composed of carbohydrates, while avocados are made up of healthy fats. They are actually one of the fattiest plants that exist, since 77% of their calories come from fat. Now, don't let this high percentage turn you off from avocados forever. The fats I'm talking about are monounsaturated fats, which help keep your cholesterol, triglyceride levels and blood pressure in check. Avocados are also a great source of B Vitamins, including folate, which helps boost your mood and ward off depression.

Ingredients:

2 avocados (mashed) 2 tbsp. cocoa powder 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract Salt to taste Top with Hemp Hearts

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mash 2 ripe avocados. Add the vanilla, cocoa powder and salt. Mix the ingredients until combined.

  2. Sprinkle the mouse with hemp hearts

  3. Chill and enjoy!
