Thai Veggie Salad

The warm weather makes it officially feel like spring and of course the sunshine helps too! This past week I hosted a workshop all about healthy skin and I served this thai salad at the workshop. It is filled with antioxidants and perfect for a healthy glow. If you like thai food or thai flavours, I encourage you to give this recipe a try. I used my newest kitchen toy the starfrit spiralizer. It makes eating veggies so much fun! I am looking forward to using it all summer long (garden zucchini, I am coming for you!) Ingredients: - 2 cucumbers - 1 red bell pepper - 2 carrots, peeled - 3-4 green onions, chopped - 1 tbsp. sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tbsp. nutritional yeast (optional) Dressing:

Spring Spinach Salad

One of my favourite things about the spring and summer months in Canada is the abundance of fresh local produce in Ontario. I am extra excited because come May Ontario spinach is available. I am a major spinach lover (sorry Kale, it's not you it's me) and I am also a huge strawberry fan (available come May as well). In fact, I have already seen some Ontario strawberries in stores! What's even better is the fact that spinach and strawberries taste fantastic together! This morning I did a segment on Daytime York Region which featured this delicious spinach salad. It is full of fibre, antioxidants, iron, protein and healthy fats! It is also a great way to use local Ontario grown ingredients. G

Putting the Pro in Probiotics :)

Do you like to eat bacteria?? I hope your answer was heck yes, but if it wasn't that's okay. I am hoping this blog post will change your mind. Probiotics in most simple terms are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health and more specifically your digestive system. As you may or may not know, our bodies are filled with both good and bad bacteria. Probiotics help keep an optimal balance between the 'good' and 'bad' guys in your gut! They can be found naturally in our bodies, but are also added to different food products. Ever wonder what the difference is between probiotic and prebiotic? Prebiotics are also known as probiotic food. They are non-digestible food ingredients that 'f

Farm Fresh Rutabaga Chips

I love cooking and recipe testing, especially with fresh ingredients. I am super excited to be collaborating with Mount Wolfe Forest Farm (a farm close to home and ran by a friend) to create farm fresh locally sourced recipes. This week I picked up some beautiful rutabagas and decided to recipe test by making 'rutabaga chips,' and they turned out great! I also got to use my newest kitchen toy the starfrit spiralizer (only $20 at Walmart). I am now obsessed and can't wait to spiralize more veggies! Rutabagas are an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium, they are also a good source of fibre, b vitamins, and calcium! So, munch away on these babies! Ingredients: 2 rutabagas, peeled 2 tbsp.

Stuffed Sweet Potato

I don't know about you but I love sweet potatoes. They are great for you skin, and an amazing source of antioxidants and fibre. Even as a child I always preferred sweet potatoes over white ones. I remember my mom making chicken with both white and sweet potatoes, the white ones for my sister and the sweet ones for me! I decided to experiment and make a meal out of sweet potatoes and came up with a turkey stuffed sweet potato. Please give it a try and let me know if you enjoy it as much as I did! Serves 4 Ingredients: - 4 medium sized sweet potatoes, skin on - 400-500 g ground turkey - 1 white onion, chopped - 4-5 cups fresh spinach - 2 cups white mushrooms, diced - 1 and 1/2 cups shredded mo

My Top 8 Healthy Grocery Finds

I love grocery shopping and the search for healthy food and beverage items, there is something super fun and satisfying about discovering healthy and delicious foods. I especially like finding products that make healthy eating easier, because let's face it healthy eating takes work and time. In addition, the types of foods/beverages we have in our home will influence what we eat, if you love chips and have a bag sitting in your pantry, eventually you are going to eat them. Our home food environment plays a major role in shaping what we eat, so if you have healthy foods around you will likely eat those as well! In this blog post, I am going to highlight my top 8 healthy grocery finds. These a
