Healthy Carrot and Date Muffins

The holiday season is officially here and that often means more celebrating (and more eating). Although I completely think indulging is important, I also think it's important to have healthy options available. I mean who doesn't love a baked good....that's healthy? Today I enjoyed time decorating my home and spending time with loved ones. I also got to bake, which is one of my favourite things to do on a Sunday. Today I tested these delicious and nutritious carrot and date muffins (and I LOVED them). They are a great source of fibre, protein, and contain very little added sugar (4 grams in one muffin). See nutrition facts below. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Makes 12 muffins Ingred

5 Health Tips for Men in Movember

I can't say I love how moustaches look, but I do love what they are supporting during the month of November, which is men's health. This year the average life expectancy for men is 79 years and 83 for women, which means men are typically dying earlier. In addition, both prostate and testicular cancer have been on the rise with testicular cancer rates doubling in the last 50 years (Movember Canada, 2017). In honour of men and their health (including my moustache man) this blog post is sharing 5 ways to promote men's health and reduce risk of chronic disease and more specifically prostate cancer. 1. Maintain a healthy body weight (get moving and eat healthy) Having a healthy body weight and bo

Calories, calories, calories. I often hear people talk about calories, in fact they are now posted on most Canadian menus (I am sure you've noticed that). But what are calories and do you need to be restricting them? What are calories? Calories are a unit of energy. We get our energy (aka calories) from the foods we eat and beverages we drink, in turn we burn calories through physical activity and daily living activities (i.e., breathing, digesting, walking, moving etc.). How many calories do I need? Our bodies need calories to be healthy and to function at our best throughout the day. The amount of calories each person needs varies depending on a variety of factors including weight, height,

This tasty butternut squash soup is vegan, filled with nutrients, and it's freezer friendly. It is also filled with vitamin A, vitamin C, fibre, potassium, and other important nutrients and minerals. Enjoy this on a cold fall evening with a small piece of warm and crusty bread.
